In December 1917, Mabel Dodge moved from Greenwich Village to New Mexico to see her husband and her son. In the beginning, she planned to stay for a short, some kind of vacation, but literally fell in love with New Mexico, returned to New York to pick up her belongings and permanently settled in New Mexico. She often remarked that this was a turning point in her life, her life was divided into two parts and she entered the second part. The new way of life replaced the previous one, the new one was magical, fairy-tale, strange, horrible, cute, as never before could have imagined. She  invited many artists to visit New Mexico, there were avant-garde artists, writers, but also reformist politicians. She changed her place of residence several times, moved to several cities in New Mexico, but always offered her accommodation to friends who wanted to find inspiration.
