What is the basis of the gregorian calander

The Gregorian calendar is currently used in the Western World,  both as the civil and Christian ecclesiastical calendar.

Its original form was the Julian calendar (proposed by Julius Caesar).

The Gregorian calendar was introduced by Pope Gregory XIII in October 1582.
