Why did the delegates to the constitutional convention create a new constitution rather than revise the articles of confederation?

The articles of confederation were way to week.Although it would have been a little simpler,the US needed a strong government.The states had too much power.The constitution was made for all the present states and future states to follow.If would give a larger body of government power along with state government.The constitution keeps the states from gaining too much power and causing harm to the country.
