The Roman Empire was the latter period of ancient Roman civilization. At its peak, it encompassed territories that expanded around the Mediterranean Sea, Africa, and Asia. Its capital was the city of Rome until the 4t h century, where it was moved to Constantinople by Emperor Constantine. In the territory known as the city of Istambul, Turkey nowadays.

The period prior to the actual Roman Empire was full of political instability and conflicts for power. After a series of successions product of violent episodes of assassinations of leaders (like Julius Caesar), a period of stability came with emperor Augustus, who is considered as the first emperor of the Roman Empire. This marked the beginning of a period known as the "Roman Peace". The empire would continue its expansión peaking its extension during the reign of Trajan around the year 115 AD. The decline would come afterward with Commodus and the eventual fall of Constantinople by the hands of the Ottoman Empire.

We are now in the period of globalization. Wars are no longer led by the military but rather by corporations (commercial wars). The current economic model known as capitalism is the predominant ideology among countries. This brings tremendous wealth to some countries. However, it also brings issues like poverty and inequality. Just like the Roman Empire, the current model has reached its peak during the latter part of the 20th century and is now experimenting a decline due to the consequences of globalization. Which shifts jobs and wealth to other geographic regions. It still remains to be seen for how long will capitalism last but what is clear is that times are changing and hopefully we'll shift to a more equal society.
