Luther Standing Bear was a Sicangu and Oglala Lakota chief. He is well-known as a historian, philosopher and educator. However, he is also remembered due to his account of the Carlisle Indian Industrial School.

Instead, they were forced to dress as Europeans. Another important change was the new diet that the children had to follow.
