1. There was a lot of migration to big cities.  Cities grew enormously because of migration.  For example, after the Civil War, Afro Americans migrated to northern cities trying to avoid extreme racism in the south.

2. Development of railroads and trains, there were new railroad lines.  There was a development of steel mining, steel was used to construct the new railroads.

3. Architecture changed because most new structures were made out of steel. The city's landscape changed considerably, many new buildings were built.

4. Development of industry, particularly steel.  Cities started being populated by industrial workers.
