Describe first aid measures for burns, wounds, and choking

For first degree burns you must cool the burn by placing the area affected under cool (not cold) water until pain subsides. Use compresses if running water is not available. Next make sure to protect the burn by covering it with sterile, non-adhesive bandage or clean cloth. Do not apply butter or ointments which may cause infection. Then, treat the pain with a pain reliever such as ibuprofen or acetaminophen. For wounds, you must try to make it stop bleeding by applying direct pressure on the cut or wound with a clean cloth. If the wound is on the arm or leg, raise limb above the heart ,if possible, to help slow bleeding. Then clean the cut or wound and protect with an antibiotic cream to reduce risk or infection. Do not use hydrogen peroxide or iodine for cleaning the wound as it can lead to tissue damage. For choking, give back blows to the affected person between their shoulder blades with the heel of your hand, give up to 5 blows. If the person is still choking do thrusts. Perform a total of 5 abdominal thrusts. Only do these thrusts if the victim is not pregnant or too obese. Give CPR if necessary.
