Describe the attitudes held by americans about colonizing other lands

There were two main streams of thought regarding Americans colonizing other lands: 1) the isolationists who believed that such actions were wrong and expensive, and 2) the people who thought that it was America's "right" or "destiny" to do so, and that such actions would enrich the American empire.
