How were the new immigrants that arrived in america in late 1800's different from earlier waves of immigrants?

One way in which the new immigrants that arrived in America in late 1800's were different from earlier waves of immigrants is that they had more skills, since many came to work in the factories that had taken root during the Industrial Revolution.
