During the war, the nations that are part of the OPEC were surrounding Israel and were hostile towards Israel. In the area, Israel is the only nation that does not have a large amount of oil, and the US was affected by the oil embargo because of it's support.  The nations in OPEC were trying to break the US support of Israel, but failed.
