Someone answer this why did u. s. superiority in the air war fail to win quickly in vietnam?

Fighting in the air couldn't help the US cause much. Bombing had little effect on the war. In fact the bombing led to increased criticism of the war by the American people because of the massive destruction with no beneficial results. The Veit Cong would hid and move around basically enacting a guerrilla style of warfare.
