Why does douglass say he came to loathe reading, as stated in chapter 7 of narrative of the life of frederick douglass? a; once douglass learns to read, his master entrusts him with more work, so he loathes it for adding more to his already heavy workload.  

Douglass believes that learning to read is the way out of slavery. But sometimes when he thinks about it, maybe knowing how to read is more of a curse than a blessing. The more he learns with his reading, the more it hurts to know that he is a slave. He understands the injustice of his being a slave but at the same time there is nothing he can do about it.
