The message to Nicodemus is Jesus telling Nicodemus what it means to be 'born again'. Jesus explained that first you needed to follow the word of the Lord ( "And why call ye me, Lord, Lord, and do not the things which I say?" Luke 6:46) If you dont follow his word and do as he says then you are not faithful. He also explains that God gives him wisness and that wiseness he casts out ( "All that the Father giveth me shall come to me; and him that cometh to me I will in no wise cast out." John 6:37) and that also ties in with following the word of the Lord. When Jesus speaks wiseness he is speaking out the word of god and that one shall listen to him. Jesus also says that one shall be bathed by holy water or baptized. When you are baptized you are saved ("For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved." Romans 10:13). When you are baptized and you follow the Lord and are faithful to him you will be 'born again' as a Christian and will be saved by god.
