Reasons for emigrating to colonial America from England had much to do with escaping religious persecution or pressure in England, as well as economic problems and societal changes.  The English Civil War, which began in 1642 and stretched to 1651, was a battle that included religious motivations as well as struggles over control of the government.  Once things settled down in England overall, having less tension and chaos in the home country led to less emigration to the New World.
