Cesar chavez was successfully used this tactic when grape growers did not concede to his union demands:

Boycott--Chavez started a grape boycott which targeted the industry and companies using Delano grapes.

The boycott eventually forced farmers and companies to provide better pay and benefits for the farm workers. The media helped to draw people in across the country for the boycott to be successful.
