1. how were all outside variables that could affect the outcome of the experiment controlled

We controlled the outside variables by keeping the water a specific temperature by heating it, cooling it, and keeping the room a certain temperature. We also made sure that we didn't touch the water or the substance with our hands. 

Dbecause it isn't always an athlete, breathing techniques don't have to be advanced, and consistent intensity won't make it go down or stay the same
