Describe the trait centred view and then explain how this benefits sports performance
This is an example to help you
Part 1. Explain exactly what it is and give examples of the characteristics?
The trait centred view is the view that suggests that your characteristics are given by the genetics which you have inherited. Your personality does not change, and it is stable in any given circumstance. The reason for motivation is always the same for a person with a trait centred view. A person with stable traits would have noticeably clear goals, and without any goals their motivation would be meaningless. The person with stable traits is likely to be fundamentally motivated. Without any goals, the person would be demotivated, which means that the person will be likely to give up on their sport.
Part.2 Give a sporting example that relates to this theory and explain how exactly it does
For example, Christiano Ronaldo’s goal was to become the best and make his father proud, and today he is one of the most highly ranked footballers in the world. This theory suggests that low levels motivation would remain in you, however, this is not correct because you can gain encouragement and help with goal setting from your coach or friends. This means that your motivation can change, and the trait theory can be proved wrong because of this.
