Sunscreen is used to protect the skin from the sun. Ultraviolet (UV) light itself is an electromagnetic wave released by the Sun. Exposed to these rays in appropriate doses can make the body better. For example, direct contact with ultraviolet B (UV-B) light encourages human skin to produce vitamin D3.

However, if it absorbs too much light this can make DNA damaged and cannot be repaired. The damage will later trigger skin cancer. Besides UV-B, there are two categories of UV radiation, namely ultraviolet A (UV-A) and ultraviolet C (UV-C).  

Each type of ray moves at a different wavelength. UV-C rays are considered very dangerous for humans. Fortunately, the Earth has an ozone layer that is responsible for absorbing almost all of the UV-C rays that enter the Earth's atmosphere.

Sunscreen itself is created with several different SPF levels, which provide defense for the skin against exposure to UV rays that successfully penetrate the ozone layer. Then what about the astronauts who went into space?

The moon itself does not have much atmosphere, so its surface is filled with ultraviolet radiation. With so much exposure to UV radiation on the Moon, most people might think that astronauts who visit the Moon will come home with a terrible sting from the Sun. But it happened.
