In this lab, we reviewed primate diets and dietary adaptations, as well as forms of locomotion and locomotor adaptations. To help you make comparisons and better understand the general pattern of these behaviors, complete Parts A and B.
PART A. Answer the following questions describing the adaptations associated with each diet and give an example of a primate that has this diet. You can also fill in the Primate Diet Chart on p. 358 of your lab manual to help you organize your information.
Part i. What adaptations are associated with an insectivory diet? Give an example of a primate that has this diet.
Part ii. What adaptations are associated with a gummivory diet? Give an example of a primate that has this diet.
Part iii. What adaptations are associated with a frugivory diet? Give an example of a primate that has this diet.
Part iv. What adaptations are associated with a folivory diet? Give an example of a primate that has this diet.
PART B. Answer the following questions describing the adaptations associated with each form of locomotion. Give an example of a primate that practices this form of locomotion. You can also fill in the Primate Locomotion Chart on p. 358 of your lab manual to help you organize your information.
Part v. What adaptations are associated with vertical clinging and leaping? Give an example of a primate that practices this form of locomotion.
Part vi. What adaptations are associated with brachiation? Give an example of a primate that practices this form of locomotion.
Part vii. What adaptations are associated with semibrachiation? Give an example of a primate that practices this form of locomotion.
Part viii. What adaptations are associated with arboreal quadrupedalism? Give an example of a primate that practices this form of locomotion.
Part ix. What adaptations are associated with terrestrial quadrupedalism? Give an example of a primate that practices this form of locomotion.
Part x. What adaptations are associated with knuckle-walking? Give an example of a primate that practices this form of locomotion.
