Bob, an avid skier, had a bad fall while skiing in Colorado and broke his right leg. Upon x-ray it was determined that Bob had suffered a compound, proximal tibial-fibular fracture. The x-ray also revealed a torn lateral meniscus in the knee. Unfortunately, the bone became infected and the infection had to be treated with antibiotics before the break could be casted. After casting, Bob remained in the cast for 4 months, after which it was removed and Bob was encouraged to slowly begin putting weight on the leg.

After 8 months, the bone healed but the lateral meniscus had not, resulting in continued swelling and pain.

Where in the leg exactly did Bob’s fracture occur?
