In Chapter Two, the risk factors for heart disease and stroke are discussed. The part of the country that we live in is sometimes called the stroke belt and we have high rates of heart disease and stroke. Address these points: (1) Examine the risk factors in the textbook and then explain what habits, lifestyle behaviors and other variables unique to the South increase risk of heart disease and stroke in the South. In other words, what are people who live in the South doing that causes this area to have higher rates of heart attack and stroke than do people who live in other areas?

(2) What changes could be made to reduce the risk factors?

(3) What responsibility do government, schools, social agencies, the food industry, fitness industry have in bringing about changes to reduce risk of cardiovascular disease in the South?

(4) What responsiblity does the individual have in bringing about changes to reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease for themselves and for their family
