I would say that the trend to encourage evidence-based practice (EBP) means that providers are expected to use A. current scientific evidence to inform practices.
They need to use best medical evidence to do so, but I'm not sure whether it has to be current or traditional, sorry. All I know is that it has to be tested and approved.
