Mississippi Fights Obesity
As of 2014, Mississippi had the third-highest rate of obesity in the United States.
In 1990, the state decided to adapt a federal nutrition guidance program to deal
with this health issue. Schools and local groups are used to teach the courses.
The program addresses local food preferences and inactivity patterns. It
encourages communities to allow local residents to use school tracks and gyms
for exercising when school is not in session.
