Edema is a medical condition whereby the capillaries in the body starting to loose the fluids that they contain. The tissue surrounding the body thereby absorb these fluids from the capillaries and cause that part of the body to be swollen.

Symptoms of Edema in a particular area of the body includes:

Shiny skin, swollen skin due to accumulation of fluids in the tissue, pain.

Edema can be caused by sitting in a particular position for too long. It can also be caused by usage or injestion of drugs antiinflammatory drugs such as ibuprofen,

Edema is not a very serious illness. Sometimes it goes on its own. Edema can be treated or reduced by elevating the area of the body that is swollen, for example if it is the legs, we can keep them elevated on pillows.

Edema if severe can also be treated by using drugs that expel fluids from the body such as diuretics.
