Thus such individuals failed to recollect most recent events, and therefore failed to make recent memories. It is due to disruptions in the  cortical  connections(formed by  hypothalamus and thalamus) between the short-term memory storage hippo-campus and the long-term memory storage regions  the cortex,  so that short memory stored in the hippocampus are lost in transmission because  they are not delivered for storage at the cortex.
