At what stage if renal failure a patient be given a kidney transplant? what happen to kidneys during stage i through stage v renal failure?

Stage 5 I believe & during stage 5 the kidneys have pretty much lost all ability to do their job (remove wastes and extra fluids, make blood red cells)
