OBSESSIVE COMPULSIVE DISORDER:

The state in which an individual feels the urge to do something repeatedly or has recurring thoughts is Obsessive Compulsive Disorder. There are a wide range of symptoms that interfere with all the social and personal life.  Yale–Brown Obsessive Compulsive Scale is used to diagnose OCD. Some of the symptoms are namely

OCD can be due to hereditary and genetic factors.  The abnormalities in the chemical, functional and structural abilities of the brain causes this mental disorder. OCD can be controlled by repetitive counselling, medications like antidepressants and Electroconvulsive therapy in some refractory and severe cases. It affects roughly 2.3% of people. Both genders are affected equally.  Electroconvulsive therapy involves the stimulation of the functions of brain with electric impulses while the person is under anaesthesia.
