Why is self harm so addictive and whats the most dangrous factor?

Self harm is addictive because it has a way of making you feel better, taking the pain from inside and putting it on the outside is a way for you to care for it, and watch it heal, if that makes sense.

I know that self harming releases a feel-good chemical in your brain (correct me if I'm wrong) and that is also why it is so addictive.

The most dangerous factor of self harm is that the risk of infection is pretty high if you don't care for your wounds, and if you're a cutter the risk for you hitting something major in your arm (if that's where you self harm) is very high. Not only that, you have a lot of tendons and nerves in your arm, and if you hit one of those, you can lose mobility in your hand. (Again, I'm not a professional so please correct me if I'm wrong)
