ECT is a therapeutic  procedure  developed in the 1930s .  In ECT  the patient is initially  given small amount of anesthesia . Then  electric shock is  given to patients to get  a temporary  cortical seizure.  The electric shock gives a brief convulsive seizure during which the patient becomes  totally unconscious.

Psychosurgery

Psychosurgery  is a rarely used surgical procedure used to  modify  behavioral  or psychological reaction. Lobotomy  is the  widely used Psychosurgery. It is referred as  prefrontal lobotomy. In  Lobotomy   the nervous  pathway that  links cerebral cortex to the lower brain centers to control  patient's aggressive or violent behaviours .
