The women in India, in general, are discriminated culturally, so even though the law prohibits that, it is widely practiced in the everyday life. That causes the women in India to often not be able to have the same education as their male counterparts, or when it comes to employment, the men are almost always seen as more capable and better workers, so the women usually don;t get the job, or get a lower payed job.
