Temperatures in the deep oceans are at low latitudes compared to high latitudes.

Surface temperatures are higher in low latitudes, where there are high amounts of solar radiation. The opposite is true in high latitudes. However, at low altitudes while the surface waters are warm, there is a decrease in temperature the deeper you go. This does not occur with high altitudes.
