In terms of climate, the Shang Dynasty and Indus Valley civilization were similar because both were dry. The Indus Valley Civilization ranged from that of the dry semidesert areas to severe high mountain climates. The Shang Dynasty had very extreme climates meaning that if a drought came along, the climate would stay that way for a long time. So, the two are similar because of their dry climate regions.
