You're talking about central New York State.

Traveling south from the region around the Finger Lakes**, the first state border you would cross is out of New York State into Pennsylvania.

** The five biggest "Finger Lakes" are Seneca, Cayuga, Oneida, Canandaigua, and Skaneateles.  But there are more in the set:  Conesus, Hemlock, Honeoye, Canadice, Keuka, Owasco, Otisco, Onandaga, and Cazenovia . . . all roughly parallel, in a set that's only about 100 miles east-to-west.  If you're in an airplane on a clear day ... say flying to Chicago from New York or Boston ... you can see all 13 lakes at the same time !

That whole part of New York State is incredibly beautiful, especially now in the Fall.  The forests are at their peak of color, the air is crisp, and there's cider for sale everywhere, hard and soft.

I know this because I grew up in Rochester, and spent 3 incredible summers at camp on Lake Seneca . . . 2 as a camper, and 1 as a kitchen boy.

I even rowed a boat across Lake Seneca and back, one long night.  But that's another story.
