A metropolis is a capital or chief city of a country or region. A mega city is a very large city, typically more than 10 million people. So, a mega city is a large city with a high population and metropolis is just a capital city(that is less than 10 million people). Depending on the city, they may have similar economic growth and decline, transportation systems, and/or culture(i.e. religion, clothing, etc.).
