Can someone help me reparaphrase this?

In modern times, we seem to buy more than what we need, and use and waste more water and electricity without thinking about the consequences of our actions. It seems to be normal behaviour to
consume more and waste more.

In the present day, we tend to purchase things in bulk rather then when we need it. This leads us to waste materials like water and natural resources used for electricity without thinking about the consequences of our actions, as it feels normal to water more then we will consume or utilize.

Water flows along the east coast and across the western tropical pacific towards south america, while they both are directed towards that way,  el niño does not directly affect the southern flow of water along the coast.
