2. ocean water depth (from the surface of the ocean down to the surface of the ocean floor) increases systematically when moving away from mid-ocean ridges. what is a possible explanation for this? how does this explain the observation that the tops of the seamounts along the hawaiian-emperor chain get deeper with increasing age?
