Why are temperature extremes found at places far from the ocean, while areas close to the ocean rarely experience severe temperature variations?

The offshore or coastal or littoral  regions have very rare experience of extreme variations in temperature, this is due to the fact that the heat capacity of water is higher  than it is on the land which means that  it takes longer time for water to vary its temperature i.e., it takes longer time for water to get heated or  be cooled. Therefore, it goes with the established fact of heat capacity of water that the regions far away from the ocean or littoral regions experience extreme temperature variations as compared to  the areas closer to the coastal regions and these areas have moderate temperature i.e., neither too hot in summers nor cold in winters.
