The Gobi Desert lies on the boundary of China and Mongolia comprising of the northern edge of China and the southern part of Mongolia. The edges of the Gobi Desert stretch into both countries and are characterized by the presence of scarce vegetation which is absent in the interiors of the desert. This scarce vegetation on the edges makes the exterior region of the desert experience a semiarid climate unlike the interiors which are characterized by an arid climate.
