Migrating groups share new foods, and sometimes these new dishes become widely accepted. Examples include Chinese food in San Francisco, Thai food in Seattle, the Cuban sandwich in Miami, and southwestern cuisine in Arizona and New Mexico. In many cases, a city’s “signature” foods come from dishes brought by immigrant groups. Immigrants also can bring new games, sports, and pastimes to their new homes. One example is bocce, which Italians brought to neighborhoods in Philadelphia and New York. Games and hobbies can become an important part of a city’s culture.
