Stress and strain cause the rocks to form folds and they get deformed as they are two types of deformation that are plastic and the elastic deformation as in the elastic deformation rock return to the original state and in plastic, the rock gets broken if out of there shapes. Under these conditions, the rock is likely to get fractured. Theses are built-in greater depths that have a high temperature and high pressure. sudden stress often leads to plastic deformation. Hence the geologist makes use of the dip and the strike measurements as the slip show the distance from where the rocks have moved along the fault and thus can be up and down the fault plane. And the angle that lies to the horizontal surface of the earth thus is joined as the dip and hence is a relatively horizontal plane to the deformed rocks thus helps them to estimate the stress that the rocks have.
