Goal: To write a description of a home
Steps:
Start by brainstorming: What is “home” for you? Jot down adjectives that describe this place, its furnishings, its real or ideal inhabitants, and what you do there. Do you do different things at your home or nearby depending on the weather and the season?
Choose the general tone you wish to adopt: A detached or objective tone would result from a simple, factual description, and a more emotional tone would result from your focusing on your feelings. An emotional tone might include such words as aimer, adorer, and détester.
Settle on a vantage point. Will you move through a number of rooms and convey what you see there? Will you describe your home from one fixed point, such as the living room or the garden?
Organize your ideas and create an outline.
Write your first draft. Take a break, then reread it for organization and consistency.
Ask a classmate to check your work.
Prepare your final draft, taking into account your classmate’s most helpful remarks. Check the draft for spelling, punctuation, and grammar. Focus especially on your use of possessive adjectives and on the verbs faire and aller.
