this essay, written by l rust hills and published in 1968 is an attempt by a concerned and experienced person, who knows about the harships of not only buying, but also eating an ice cream and the entire set of problems that might arise from an adventure in getting an ice cream, to explain the issue to others. he creates a sort of easy-to-follow guideline for people who want to eat ice cream but are also taking someone with them to do the same, especially children, so that they avoid what the author considers the biggest problem of all; generating a mess of any kind.

one topic that seems really important to the speaker in the essay is the one regarding the mixing of flavors and how this may change your perception on your favorite taste, or even lead you to want something other than what you have gotten. in fact, he is very clear when he says that he always chooses the same flavor of ice cream and never changes it because that way other people do not ask him to taste his ice cream. so, in the middle of the essay, he says clearly that one should never allow the ice cream cone handler in the store to give you all the cones for other people at once because then the flavors might mix and you might regret not getting what another got and this creates a mess and disorder. this is why, the correct answer to this question is b.
