By the middle of the 19th century, Realism began to replace Romanticism, with artists criticizing Romanticism for its failure of depicting the truth to contemporary life and events accurately. Realism focused on the literal depictions of daily life during the Industrial and Scientific Revolution, both dominating the western culture of the 19th century.
