1. In "Marriage is a Private Affair," Nnaemeka obviously respects his father but he also does not want to blindly follow his orders because of love. In "A Meeting in the Dark," John's father also does not approve of his choice for a wife. Both fathers care deeply about religion and heritage.

2. Self-worth is fueled by a sense of pride and this pride often comes from achievements or communal solidarity. When colonizers attempt to take away the land of native Africans, they see it as an attachment to their heritage, their pride, and ultimately, their self-worth. They will try to resist until they are no longer capable of doing so. When this happens, their self-worth decreases which are also the start of the end of their tribal heritage.

In the prompt 2, For the Africans, a sense of pride is important to a sense of self-worth and the history of the colonial rule due to the fact that these people have been ruled by different countries in which they are different in culture and language of the Africans.
