George Harris, when he is introduced to the reader, is immediately portrayed as a parallel hero to Uncle Tom, wherein George lives his life under the ownership of a different slaveowner, and he would, by extension, receive much different treatment than Uncle Tom because of their differing slaveowners. George's wife, Eliza, on the other hand, is working as a slave for the Shelby family, much like Uncle Tom. In personality, however, Uncle Tom was very much different from the Harris family in that he was a very submissive individual; he was much more willing to simply accept the things that happened to him rather than fight for his own freedom. He did, however, show strength and determination in his refusal to give up on believing in and having faith in God.

2. In "Uncle Tom's Cabin," a novel that was written by Harriet Beecher Stowe, the book deals with the themes of the symbolic connection between the death of Tom and the death of Christ. Stowe makes this connection between Uncle Tom and Christ by way of their deaths. Both of these people had similar lives as well as similar deaths, and it is not difficult to see that this connection between the two was made intentionally. Jesus, in the Bible, had sacrificed himself and died in order to wash away all of the sins of the people on Earth. Uncle Tom, similarly, had also died for a similar cause. In Tom's death, he had aided in the escape of Emmeline and Cassy as well as helping all of the slaves on the Shelby farm in Kentucky to be freed. So, just as Jesus from the Bible had sacrificed himself to save the people from their own sins, Uncle Tom had died in order to save the black men and women from slavery on the Shelby farm.
