Malcolm claims that he is young, bloody, luxurious, and that he is full of sin. These descriptions are all analogies of what Malcolm thinks about Scotland. He admits to these character flaws as a means of describing the current state of Scotland, in which the country was essentially 'bleeding out'.

Because writing on paper is said to engrave what your writing down into your brain therefore writing your thoughts is better than speaking them.
