The most difficult part would have to be in the beginning. They go into detail about the EDS ship , and why they couldn't have more than one person on the ship"The cruisers, powered by nuclear converters, did not use the liquid rocket fuel, but nuclear converters were far too large and complex to permit their installation in the Ed's. The cruisers were forced by necessity to carry limited amount of bulky rocket fuel, and the was rationed with care, the cruisers computer determining the exact amount of fuel each EDS would require did not  leave enough fuel for emergency purposes.

As the boys sleep, military airplanes battle fiercely above the island. none of the boys sees the explosions and flashes in the clouds because the twins sam and eric, who were supposed to watch the signal fire, have fallen asleep. during the battle, a parachutist drifts down from the sky onto the island, dead.
