In ovid's "the story of daedalus and icarus," why do icarus's wings fall off?

Icarus, Daedalus's son did not obey his father's warning of not flying too close to the sun. He flew too close and the sun's heat melted the wax holding the feathers to the wing causing the feathers to fall off.
