Have you ever had an experience during which you've learned something that has impacted you for the rest of your life? well, when reading narratives, or stories, we want to discover a theme, or life lesson the author wishes for us to discover. can you think of some stories you've read in the past and have taken away a message about life that you keep with you still today? take some time to reflect on this, because it will really you as you move forward to work on the assessment. here are some really simple steps to completing assessment 1.04: 1. download workfile 1.04 from the site. here's a link: 2. now, read the story "the reefs" by marcella morris. as you read, identify the following parts of the plot. pay close attention to the thoughts and feelings of the protagonist. it will really you discover the theme of the story. - protagonist(main character): - setting(time and place): - conflict(what's the main problem? ): - rising actions(what scenes make the problem worse? ): - climax(when does the problem begin to turn around? ): - falling actions(what events lead to a solution? ): - resolution(what's the solution? possible theme? ): 3. lastly, begin to write an essay in which you first identify the theme(life lesson), then explain how the theme develops in 3 parts of the plot, and finally conclude by restating the theme. hereā€™s a short video thatā€™ll you understand theme:you must do a theme analysis. what life lesson did sophie learn that we can also learn? how did she learn this life lesson? these are the questions your paragraph should answer. -introduction: state the theme, title and author of the story in the first sentence. - make sure that you only mention portions of the plot that develop theme and explain how these scenes develop the theme. - conclusion: restate the theme.
