The speaker is heartbroken and he wanders around her tomb. However, as he is sitting there, he sees a vision. Many spirits rise from their tombs and change their epitaph to something that is more honest. When he looks at the lover's grave, he discovers he went out in the rain to cheat on him.

In these way, the author communicates some of his feelings about love relationships. He conveys how difficult and painful grief is. He also tells us how deep love can be.
